Jayabaya was a famous king of Kediri in East Java. He was a special king. He was a prophet-king. He could see into the future. He ordred some teachers to write down his sayings and put them into a book about his visions.
One of these stories or visions was about the colonization of Indonesia and also the Second World war.
Jayabaya said, "There will come a time when the kingdom will be overtaken by strange people who will come out of nowhere. They will have white skin and carry magic sticks that can kill people from a distance.
These people will rule our kingdom for a very long time until a different people come from the north; short people with yellow skin. They will force the white men to leave. The yellow men shall rule then, but only just as long as a corn's life (3 1/2 years)
Jayabaya lived a short life. He was dead at the early age of 24, nearly 900 years ago.
Another famous prediction that Jayabaya made was that after the white men and the yellow men had left Indonesia, he said that the leaders would have names like this word, "Notonegoro" ( the leaders of the country).
The first President of Indonesia was Sukarno, with the last two letters being "NO", and the second President was Suharto with the last two letters being "TO."
Who were the white people in Jayabaya's vision?
Who were the yellow people?
What are the last two letters of the third Indonesian president?
How did Jayabaya know this almost 900 years ago?
What were the magic sticks that could kill people from a distance?

Marcel 3A
Wow! Jayabaya is so cool he can read the future. What I don't understand is why did he died in age of 24.
Priska
3D
I like the story, but it's a bit strange. Where did you get it from?
I don't really believe it.
Corin 3A
I think the story is a bit about war.
but I like the story
where did you know about the story?
Tata 3A
I don't think so I don't think it's war
Mr.Phil, I think this story is amazing. It's amazing because Jayabaya can read someone's future or even his own future. My idea is a little bit the same as Corin's idea,it's strange. How can he know the trick to know someone's future or his own future?
Sydney Tanoe

I say this story is really good.
Where do you got this story?
Jayabaya is really "cool" because he can read the future and be a king!
I like this story so much.
Shannon 3D
wow mr.phil what a nice story and, why can jayabaya see in the future, that is cool. why did he died at the age 24 years old ? and where did you get the story from . thats a good story you have.
angela 3A
I love this story because it really have action to it.
It tells about the wars and how great Jayabaya's power is....
Judith 3D
I really don't believe in this story mr phil
Where is Kediri which island is it near to ?
where do you get this story mr phil ?
Did he had a life cut short ?
why ?
Where does the magic sticks that the white people carries ?
what actually are they ?
for me its impossible to believe in a story like that
Where there kings queens or empresses in Indonesia or are there only presidents ?
Gaby 3A
I don't like the story. It is weird. How can he see to the future. Jayabaya is not god and if he got the same power as god, why did he died in a early age? Is Jayabaya an Alien or is he a monster? A person can't do those things. Who are the yelow and short man? I never herd about those weird yellow man. Are the white man very white or they are just wearing powder as teir costume. Are the white man short tall, weird or they are just normal man? Anyway why did the author do not tell us about the war? I don't think yellow man have war with white man?
Jason 3A#
he is so cool,I LIKE IT because she could go to future
nick
Fair enough Marcel. What do you mean by "belive"? Are you sure that's right?
Phil
Priska, lot's of gifted people die young - Mozart for example.
But I bet this is the first time you have heard of an Indonesian predicting the future.
Phil
Corin, It's true enough according to legend and legend are often based on something that really did happen or someone who really lived.
Phil
Tata, It's not really about war, but rather people coming and occupying Indonesia. Do you know who those people were?
Phil
I like this story very much!It was amazing.Jayabaya is an amazing king because he can predict the future. This story is a little bit about war.Anyway, I still like the story. But why did Jayabaya die so young? It's a wierd story.Where did you get this story Mr.Phil?
Sherline 3D
Mr.Phil Jayabaya is a great king he can read someone's future even he's own.Mr.Phil what is Notonegoro?
Shania 3D
Sydney I don't think anyone knows the answer to your question, how?
But there have been a number of people in history who have told the future, but this story is from Java - close to home.
Phil
Shannon, yes, it is a very special story, but I can't tell you where I got it.
Phil
Angela, well now the story is ours and belongs to all Year 3 students. Why did he die so young? Who know? But then a thousand years ago people didn't live long anyway and special people like Jayabaya often died very young.
Phil
Judith, Does it talk about wars or different coloured people coming here and taking control of the country. Who were they? do you know. Ask your sister or your folks. I'm sure they'll know.
Phil
Mr.Phil I have one more quetion what is the word Notonegoro now?
And I have understand what Notonegoro mean.
Mr.Phil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I forget my name it is Shania and it is above this comment.
Shania 3D
Gaby The story comes from the same island that you and I are now on.
And the magic sticks go BANG! So, what do you think they are. Remember this story is before magic sticks were invented by about four hundred years!
Indonesia has had many kings and queens, but presidents are only new really.
Why did Jayabaya die young. It's not uncommon for clever people to die young. Do you know about Mozart?
Who were the white people? And the yellow people?
Ask your family. They'll know for sure.
Ciao,
Phil
Hi Mr. Phil, I like this story, because he can know what will happen in the future. Mr. Phil did you make it or just copy it from the book?
Claudia Amanda SD 3D
Jason, I know that to you this must be very strange. Indeed how can somebody predict the future. the fact is though, there have been many amazing people who have predicted the future just as Jayabaya is said to have done. The most famous person in Europe is a fellow by the name of Nostradamus and his prediction include the end of the world!
But jayabaya knew the last two letters of the the first and the second presidents of Indonesia and the white people who would come to Indonesia four hundred years after he died. Who were they?
You should know.
Sure weird, strange, but very interesting and very possible.
Phil
Nick, "she"?
Phil
Sherline, Let me give you some useful English. "I really like this story!" Now Sherline, that's how to say it.
Where did I get it? I'm not saying just yet.
Weird? i guess if I were your age I would say the same thing - weird. But really I think you mean strange or unusual, because we don't meet people who predict the future every day. But history is full of them. People have always been fascinated about the future.
For example, the way you and I are communicating now is already out-of -date! By the time you get to high school, your computer technology will be completely different, websites will be much better and different, faster, with more information, much more than today. Will you be ready?
One last thing. It's common enough for brilliant people to die young, but not always. they do their work first, like Einstein died in his 80's, but Mozart was dead at 30 something. And so with Jayabaya.
Phil
That is a nice story, but is it a ttue story and where did you get the name
"NOTO....." what ever the name is and how can itgo to the future?
Dennis 3D
Shania, "Negoro" is the Javanese word for "negara". The first two letters NO mean the last two letters of SukarNO, Indonesia's first president, and the letters TO means the last two letters of Indonesia's second president, SuharTO. get it now?
Jayabaya sort of "felt" these names nearly 900 years ago. Amazing huh?
Do you understand now?
Phil
Actually the story is a little bit like secret legendary story. Anyway a guy who can do that must had a sixth sense[I don't want to have sixth sense...hiii..]because he can have a vision of the future.
Mr. Phil, you know where is the country with lots of windmill? It's where the white men live, Netherland. And where does sushi come from? That is the same country of the yellow men, which is Japan. For 'NOTONEGORO' I think now should be NOTOBIWATINO.Hehe.. BI is for Habibie, WA is Abdulrahman Wahid, TI is Megawati and the last NO is Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. What do you think? Am I right?
Brian 3A
it is also weird, and odd, and why did he died in the age of 24? maybe he lied
Dennis 3D
Claudia, Let me tell you something.
Learning is all about reading and getting the information you want or you enjoy.
It's all about your own level of natural curiosity. So my answer to where did I get this story. I read it somewhere. I'll leave you to guess where.
But I hope you enjoyed another story from Our Country - Indonesia.
Phil
Dennis,
The story is about the great power that some people have, but it also tells us that we all have great power, but we don't know about it and so we never realize our own powers.
Now, if you ask yourself who the white mean were, you'll get answer. And if you ask yourself who the yellow men were, you'll get another answer.
If you find out who the first President of Indonesia was, you'll get some information, and also if you ask somebody at home who the second President of Indonesia was, you'll get even more information.
And now is the time to ask and to learn, Dennis.
Phil
I think this story is very very nice but I don't belive it why jayapura can read others mine and i'm very confused about the story.
Brian,
BRILLIANT!!!!!
Are you sure you haven't got a joki back home?
I wonder if the other kids are smart enough to read your answer. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Once again, Brian - ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!
Phil
I think the story is nice and I don't belive it because Jayapura can read others mind but i'm realy confused now about the story!!!
by;jason 3d
Mr.Phil the story is a little bit wierd ... but the story is interesting....
Angela 3D
At 8:39p.m. we have another MONSTER NO-NAMER!!!
Can you believe it?
After months of work on the blog, we still have people forgetting their names!!!
MMmmmmmm. My guess is that it's either Natalie or Arif. No, I'll go for Natalie.
Phil
Jason 3D,
Don't be confused. It's not about Jayabaya reading people's minds, but rather him predicting the future hundreds of years before it actually happened.
This is about the special powers that some people have and also it it tells us about the special talents that you have and I have and everyone in your class has.
Now how can you be confused about that?
Phil
Well I kind of like this story ! I never know this story before. The meaning of this story is a king(Jayabaya) who can read the future. I like the part when he read the future and said that white men will rule the kingdom. The white men were the Dutch, and the yellow men were the Jepan. I'm not sure about the part 'NEGORO', what is it?
By Patric 3A
Good stuff Patric!
Check your spelling - "Japanese"
I wonder if you can tell me what the "magic sticks" are?
Phil
Everyone check out uncle Nick's comments. Can this gut read or what?
Come on Nicky boy. You're just being a bull in china shop!
Phil
I very like this story.
Peter 3A
Mr.Phil, the white skin people are from Dutch and the magic sticks are guns. Also the short people with yellow skin are from Japan.Jayabaya know about the future because he is gifted,he is a prophet-king.
KENNETH
3D
Mr. Phil the white people in Jayabaya's vision were Belanda and the yellow people were Japan.
The last two letters of the third president was BI (Habibi).
Jayabaya knew all of that from his vision because he was special, he can read the future.
The word now would be NOTOBIANTINO (SoekarNO, SoeharTO, HabiBI, AbdulrahmAN, MegawaTI, YudoyoNO).
I did not understand the story because it is confusing for me. Mr. Phil, my mum helps me to understand about the story so I can answer the questions.
Mr Phil, what does prophet means?
Dennis 3D
Yes, Peter you like the story, but our meeting was about saying more than "Ilike it". we want you to say why you like it. Do you think you can do that?
Phil
Excellent Kenneth. Are you sure you haven't got a joki back home there?
It's quite amazing that he even predicted muskets (guns) about 400 hundred years before they were invented!
Phil
Dennis,
Now you see how you can help yourself. You just asked your mum.
Firstly, the "Belanda are the Dutch and the little yellow people are the Japanese. Just check your spelling.
What's a prophet? Well, Dennis it means someone who can see into the future, like Jayabaya. I think the Indonesian word is "nabi."
All you have to do now is get used to telling us what you think. Is it good to find out things about Indonesia (Remember our theme "Our Country)?
Are the stories interesting and important for us to know. Do such stories make you proud to be Indonesian?
Think about those things too Dennis.
Ciao,
Phil
This story is weird but its interesting, fascinating and so outrageous
Natania 3D
You've tried hard here Natania. You've used some good expressions to describe the story, but you haven't said why it's weird or interesting. That's what we want to see.
If you can do that,(and you can for sure), then you would have advanced a lot in the way you use your English.
Phil
I don't really believe it. I like the story but, it a bit strange.
Natalie3A
Yeah, Natalie, It is hard to believe, isn't it? But, it is part of Indonesian history and the world has quite a few stories about famous people who could see into the future, did you know that?
Phil
Brian was honest enough this morning. he told me that he got his mum to help with the Jayabaya story. That's OK isn't it. I thought that's what mum's were for sometimes.
Phil
I don't really like the story because the story is weird how can a person tell the future and die at the age of 24?
Winson 3D
Mr. Phil, where is the story of Jayabaya? Did Peter delete it?
Darrell 3D
I don't like the story Mr.Phil
William 3D
The story was great!
I wish I could have the special power to tell my future
Nathan 3A
I hate it !!!! The story is useless!!!!
Peter
Peter,
Did you really write this, because the English is great. I didn't know that you could write like this.
Phil
Who were the white people in Jayabaya's vision?
the person that is forced
Who were the yellow people?
people come from the north; short people with yellow skin
What are the last two letters of the third Indonesian president?

nick

nick
